Kids Helping Kids in Kenya 2010

Playing games at the park thanks to donations from Canada, especially Xavier!
Gently used hoodies donated by the Wills family....yes it gets cold in Africa!

I am just amazed at how generous people were at my recent fundraiser....we raised over $1000 in just one night of fun!

But also so amazed by one particular boy, who before I traveled to Kenya, donated his birthday money to me so we could help Toto Love.

Xavier is only 7, but has the knowledge and love of an adult. I am very sure this is due to his wonderful parents Annie and Len! Annie is a colleague of mine and came to me when she knew that Xavier wanted to donate money to a charity, but something a bit different than the norm. He wanted one that he could have a connection with.

Before my trip I visited Xavier to talk to him about how he wanted his money spent. He wanted some toys, food and household items purchased for them. So that is exactly what I did! I purchased fun toys in Canada to take over as I knew we were having a day at the park with the Toto Love children and would need some items to play with. I also purchased cookies, chips and pop for the special day. Groceries and household items were also purchased on this trip and I was able to put money in their bank account to pay for rent for Toto Love...something really needed so they don't have to worry about that, like many of us have.

Some other children who donated were Josie and Kieran (children of my cousins). When they found out that I was visiting this orphanage they were very concerned. A few days later I was stocked up with items very suitable for children and especially the teen girls! From hockey jersey to makeup....everything was a hit! They also included letters to the Toto Love children!

Amazing jobs in 2009:

Senator Riley Middle School in my town of High River did a bottle drive in 2009 raising over $1000. Great job!

Usha donated her pop bottles and allowance also in 2009 when she heard about the children and Ken and Jenna also donated pop bottles in 2009 and in 2010 sent over hoodies!

So children helping children is a real possibility! A big thank you to all these wonderful children! You are an inspiration to others!
